Italy vs Spain Preview:
The Azzurri simply seem unstoppable, and are now the favorites to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament. The Spaniards are a great side, but they really might be meeting their match this Tuesday at the Wembley.
After missing out on the 2018 World Cup, Roberto Mancini’s men have been determined to return to their glory days. Ever since then they have taken an approach where their famed defense was complemented by an equally threatening offense.
The brilliance that Mancini has pulled off is that, the team is not dependent on any stars, or does not revolve around two or three main players. Moreover, they are a perfect mix of veterans as well as youngsters, and thus a balance of experience and energy is maintained.
Meanwhile, Luis Enrique’s men come into this game after back-to-back matches which went into extra time. That alone has put extra minutes on the already tired legs of La Roja.
Furthermore, it’s expected that the extreme pace with which the Italians conduct themselves during the game, would be hard to handle for the Spanish players, who rely more on technique than physicality.
Italy vs Spain: Head-to-head
- These two had contested in the final of the Euro 2012, when the Spaniards recorded a 4-0 win.
- In the 2016 Round of 16, the Azzurri registered a 2-0 victory.
- The latest clash between the two had ended in a 3-0 win for La Roja, and it had taken place in 2017.
- Since 1988, Mancini’s men have kept a total of just two clean sheets.
Italy vs Spain: Team News:
Wing-back Leonardo Spinazzola injured his Achilles Tendon the last match-day against Belgium, and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. This obviously is a setback for Mancini.
However, the team does have enough depth to cover this loss. The inference is that the gaffer will prefer Emerson Palmieri instead of the fallen player.
Enrique has a bunch of tired players after exhausting victories in both the Round of 16, and the Quarter Final. But against current favorites the Azzurri, the gaffer cannot take any chances.
He will have to put forth his best eleven, which included the 18-year-old midfielder Pedri Gonzalez. Critics have recently been a bit harsh about the over-utilization of the youngster.

The Azzurri are on a 13-game winning streak, which included their victory over Austria in extra time in the Round of 16. They are also on a 32-match unbeaten run, and this stretch included another 11-game winning streak.
Note that they had scored two or more goals in 12 of their past 13 fixtures.
On the other hand, Enrique’s men had failed to record wins in regular time in four of their preceding five match-ups, and also their forwards have not yet shown good form at the Euro till now.
By the looks of things, expect the terrifyingly in-form Italy to secure a win this Tuesday, and win a ticket to the final.
