The joyous festival of Durga Puja 2019 is approaching, and the preparations are in full swing. Apart from all the places, Kolkata’s celebration is a treat for the festive lovers across the country. The city of joy is at its best during Pujo. Now that the significant festival is arriving, few of the pandals are introducing some significant themes. And the most sensible move has to be the decision to create lactation chambers at the Pujo pandals for the mothers to breastfeed their newborns. As per reports at least three Durga Puja committees have arranged for such centres so that the mothers can enjoy pandal hopping without worrying about their child being hungry. 5 Myths About Breastfeeding We Should Stop Believing In.
The variant themes of Durga Puja makes the festival more enchanting as the visitors get awestruck to the genius minds behind the creation. Each pandal has some idea to offer to uphold Maa Durga and sending across so many important messages for the devotees. Jagran Josh reported that Kolkata’s Ahiritola Durga Puja, Salt Lake FD Block and Chakraberia Sarbajanani Durgotsav Committee respectively have decided to form a special breastfeeding chamber at the pandals. An organisation called the Festival Experience has come up with this initiative for this year’s Durga Puja festival. Ashim Kumar Basu of Chakraberia Serbjanani Durgotsav Committee said that the step was much needed.
The sensible move is believed to have been motivated from the recent incidents across India, where mothers were humiliated for breastfeeding the newborns in public. Last year, Kolkata’s South City Mall made the headlines for their sickening response to a mother who asked for a private space to breastfeed her child. A representative of the mall said that breastfeeding is a “home chore” and it should be done before you leave your house to shop. This created an ire among the people across the city and social media users who slammed the famous mall for being such narrow-minded. The step of creating a breastfeeding centre at these pandals is indeed appreciable that the society needed.
