Matru Pitru Pujan Divas or Parents’ Worship Day is marked on February 14. Spiritual leader Asaram Bapu, who is currently serving a jail term for rape and murder charges, had come up with the idea to celebrate Parents’ Worship Day instead of Valentine’s Day. And surprisingly, some people on Twitter are excited to ring in this day. So amidst all the Valentine Day 2019 wishes, some are exchanging Matru Pitru Diwas wishes on social media. Asaram Bapu started this tradition in the year 2007. The first Parents’ Worship Day or Matru Pitru Poojan Diwas was done at Sant Shri Asharamji Gurukul, Ahmedabad. Youth gathered with their parents to mark this day. In the year 2015, it was declared as an official celebration by the state-led government Bhartiya Janata Party in Chhattisgarh. It is a holy initiative by Asaram Bapu which encourages students to worship their parents, as a method to invoke more respect towards one’s parents.
