Rohit Sharma scored a record fourth T20 International century on Tuesday in India’s second match against West Indies in Lucknow. This helped him overtake New Zealand’s Colin Munro for most hundreds in T20Is. He ended the innings unbeaten on 111 off 61 balls in an innings that included seven sixes and eight fours. Rohit’s innings helped India set up a total of 196 for West Indies to chase. In the process, he also crossed Virat Kohli as India’s highest run scorer in T20Is and by the end of the innings, he was only 68 runs behind Martin Guptill for most runs in T20 Internationals.
India started off slowly as West Indies pacers Oshane Thomas and Keemo Paul stifled the openers for runs. Thomas started the match with a maiden over. But Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit started getting into the groove and made up for the slow start. India scored 83 runs for the loss of no wickets in the first over and in that period, Dhawan and Rohit overtook Australia’s Shane Watson and David Warner for most runs as a pair in T20Is. They ended up putting an opening stand of 123 before Dhawan had to depart thanks to a good catch by Nicholas Pooran.
He was then joined in the middle by Rishabh Pant who was promoted to no.3 ahead of KL Rahul. Pant could not deliver, though and it was Rahul in the middle as Rohit crossed over into three figure in the last over.
