Hartalika Teej 2018: All You Need to Know About The Festival

Hartalika Teej Vrat is observed on Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Bhadrapada month. This time, it will be celebrated on September 12, 2018. The festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and their makeshift statues are worshipped on this day for marital bliss and progeny. To celebrate the festivals, ladies wear new clothes, perform puja and also observe fast. Married women get gifts from their mothers-in-law along with their blessings.

According to legend, Hartalika Teej celebrates the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is the day on which the God accepted her as wife after her 108 re-births. It is also said that women observing fast on this day can make their married life blissful.

Married ladies observe Nirjala Vrat in which they can neither eat nor drink throughout the day. It is difficult to observe this fast as people may feel weak without drinking water for such a long time.

The puja is performed during morning time. Along with worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, the legend of Hartalika is also narrated to the married women.

According to drikpanchang.com, the muhurat of the festival is from 06:15 am to 08:42 am.

Hartalika Teej is widely celebrated in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. It comes one month after Hariyali Teej and most of the time celebrated a day before Ganesh Chaturthi.
